The journey

This eight-day itinerary framework is a gentle introduction to trekking in Bhutan. It combines a day walk on the Trans Bhutan Trail from the Haa valley to Paro with the overnight Bumdra (Bumdrak) trek, which camps high above the Paro valley and descends past the Tiger’s Nest. It suits fit walkers who want a short camping experience without a long expedition.

How hard is the Bumdra trek?

Bumdra is usually graded easy to moderate. The climb to camp takes around four to five hours and reaches roughly 3,800 m, so the itinerary includes acclimatisation days and a lower-altitude trail day first. The next day descends to Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest, and on to Paro.

Walking the Trans Bhutan Trail

The Trans Bhutan Trail is a restored historic route across the country. This itinerary walks one western section, from Haa over the ridge into the Paro valley, staying in a hotel at either end. The exact section, distance and timings are confirmed in your final itinerary.

Agree the route before booking

The final trek briefing sets out the walking stages, campsite, supplied equipment, meals and contingency plans. Weather and trail conditions can change the programme.
