14-Day East to West Bhutan Tour
A fourteen-day overland journey across Bhutan, entering at Samdrup Jongkhar in the east and finishing in Paro after Trashigang, Bumthang, Phobjikha and Punakha.
Cultural
An introduction to western Bhutan with two nights each in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, ending with a dedicated Tiger’s Nest day.
This seven-day Bhutan cultural tour links Thimphu, Punakha and Paro, with two nights in each base. A full Punakha day and a separate Tiger’s Nest day give each valley its own place in the journey.
Begin with Thimphu’s cultural collections and city life. Cross Dochula toward Punakha and spend the following day exploring the dzong and valley. Finish in Paro, with time for the town and the Taktsang trail before your departure.
Cultural visits involve steps and uneven ground. Tiger’s Nest is the most demanding day, so tell us about your walking experience, mobility and preferred rest stops. We can arrange an alternative Paro programme for travellers who prefer not to hike.
Add a countryside walk or craft-focused visit, or leave an afternoon free. We arrange host-led experiences by agreement and confirm access before including them in your itinerary. If Phobjikha is also a priority, discuss an extra night to allow for the additional road travel.
We tailor the hotels, meals, visits and walking pace to your group. Your written itinerary and quote identify the agreed services, government fees and applicable GST before you book. See our visa, SDF and tax guide for the current fee breakdown.
Send your dates, group size and interests to request your itinerary and quote.
Travel from Paro to Thimphu after arrival formalities. Keep the first afternoon flexible, with a gentle introduction to town if the flight schedule permits. Overnight in Thimphu.
Combine Buddha Dordenma with a museum or textile-focused visit, then allow time for town streets and everyday activity. Choose the final stops around opening hours and your interests. Overnight in Thimphu.
Make the journey to Punakha part of the day rather than a rushed transfer. Stop at Dochula when conditions permit and select a short visit on arrival. Overnight in Punakha.
Focus on Punakha Dzong and the valley surroundings. Add a walk if it suits your group, or leave more time for the architecture and setting. The visit sequence depends on local access. Overnight in Punakha.
Return west with planned breaks along the road. Save Paro sightseeing for the time and energy available after arrival instead of promising a full afternoon programme. Overnight in Paro.
Reserve the day for the Taktsang hike with time for rests. Travellers who prefer not to hike can request a separately agreed Paro programme. Overnight in Paro.
Transfer to Paro airport according to the confirmed flight. If extending your stay, discuss additional nights before booking rather than relying on last-minute arrangements.
It can be discussed, but it adds road travel and changes the balance of this route. An extra night may be a better choice if both Punakha and Phobjikha are priorities.
