The journey

This ten-day Bhutan photography tour is planned around light and location. It travels from Paro over Chele La to the Haa valley, then through Thimphu, Punakha and the Phobjikha valley before returning to Paro for the Tiger’s Nest. Days leave room for early mornings and late afternoons, when light is best.

What can you photograph in Bhutan?

Dzongs and their courtyards, valley landscapes, prayer flags on high passes, village life and, at festival time, masked dances. Photography inside temple and dzong shrine rooms is generally not allowed; your guide explains the rules at each site. Always ask before photographing people.

Can I time the tour for a festival?

Yes. Festival dates follow the lunar calendar and are confirmed closer to the time. Spring trips can be planned around Paro Tshechu and autumn trips around Thimphu Tshechu. See our festival calendar and tell us which you would like to include.

Can I bring a drone?

Drones require permission from the Bhutanese authorities. Ask us before you travel, and do not bring one without confirmed approval.
